Burton Toyota Pro 2013

Event Description
The Burton Toyota Pro will play host to 144 of the world’s best surfers for the 28th time, making it one of the longest running surf events in Australia.  In 2013 the Burton Toyota Pro Men’s will be an ASP 6 star  rated event with prize money  of US$155,000.   The Round of 144 will commence on Monday 18th February.   The winner will be decided on Sunday the 24th February on Merewether Beach, the home beach of Surfest patron Mark Richards.
 
 
The Burton Toyota Pro is an event rich in history. The Honour Roll features the names on many world champions such as Tom Carroll, Barton Lynch, Damien Hardman and Mark Occhilupo, Kelly Slater and Tom Curren.
 
Kim Burton of Burton Toyota said, “The relationship with Surfest can be attributed to a love of surfing and a commitment to both the grassroots of the sport and watching the world’s best surfers ripping up the waves in the Hunter Region.”
 
Dane Jordan ASP Australasia’s General Manager is thrilled to have this historic event offering local and international surfers the chance to compete for such a prestigious Mark Richards trophy.
 
Dane said, “The MR trophy is one of the most sought after on the Australian leg of the ASP World Tour.   This is going to be a great event, with up-and-coming surfers from Newcastle, Australasia and throughout the globe getting the chance to compete alongside elite ASP World Championship Tour surfers.
